Harbin Jile Temple

  •  The temple of Ultimate bliss is a Buddhist temple. With an area of 57,000 square meters, it is one of the four well-know Buddhist temples in northeast China. The others are Banre temple in Changchun, Cien Temple in Shenyang, Lengyan Temple in Yingkou.

    The construction of the temple started in 1921 and was completed in 1924. It was formally opened to the public in 1928. It has become a protection. Now it is also an important tourist attraction for domestic and international visitors to Harbin.

    The architecture of the temple is in conformity with the traditional style of Chinese temples. When we enter the main gate, we can see a bell tower on the right and a drum tower on the left. Early in the morning, as monks begin their prayers the bell strikes. In the evening a drum beats instead.

    There are four main buildings in the temple. The first one is the hall of laughing Buddha; the second is the main gracious hall, the third is the hall of three sacred images; and the last one is the  tower of Buddhist scripture.

    Now let’s visit the first hall. Inside this hall, we can see a shrine of the laughing Buddha. You can see how nicely he smiles. There is a couplet that reads: laugh at those who should be laughed at in the world, and tolerate what can be tolerated on earth,” if you can do that, you will become as happy as he is. There are also images of four Guardians. They work together to ensure good weather and good harvests so that the country enjoys peace and the people enjoy stable life. There is also a shrine of wei-to bodhisattva. He is a fearless guardian and his weapon; a steel stick can keep devils away.

    Now we are at the front of the main gracious hall. Here we can find a shrine of sakyamuni Buddha. He is the founder of Buddhism. Buddhism was founded in India around the 6th century BC.

    Sakyamuni means the sage of the sakaya family. He was a prince, but she broke from material world and became an ascetic. He taught that all life was suffering, and everybody had to experience the suffering of birth, sickness, oldness and death. The cause of suffering was desire, especially the desire of the body and the desire for personalfulfillment. The removal of suffering can only come from removal of desire, that is to say, happiness can only be achieved if these desires are overcome.

    Now we are in the third hall. There are three images namely Amita Buddha;

    Popular for Chinese people. He show mercy on all the people and solves all their problems. In the south dynast of the fifth century, we began to have an image of him in a woman’s form so that girls could put his shrine in their maiden chambers.

    Now let’s visit the tower of Buddhist scripture. It is two-storied building. It boasts the have the largest collection of Buddhist scripture in northeast China.

    There are over 80 monks living in this temple. Every year. They send some monks to study in other temples and Buddhist schools in China. The temple is managed by monks here. On Buddhist holidays, thousands of believers come here to celebrate. The temple is over crowed with believers and visitors. If you can come on these occasions. I am sure that you will enjoy your visit even more.
